The Trust AGM will be held on Saturday October 9th at 2 pm at the Pavilion. Also, from 1 pm to 2 pm there will be the opportunity to talk to Trustees and staff about the proposals for a new building to replace the Pavilion. All members have received a questionnaire asking for their views on a new building and we will be extending the consultation to the wider community from October onwards. Whether you are a member or a non-member you are welcome to come along and express your views. Only members, however, can vote at the AGM.

Also at the AGM we will be electing new Trustees. Any member can stand, if nominated by another member. There will be more information about the role of Trustees (and other volunteers) in the September edition of The Leaflet or you can contact the office and arrange to talk to one of the existing trustees if you are interested.

We are pleased to say that we have received the Green Flag Award for the second year running. The judges seemed very impressed when they came to visit, although we are still awaiting feedback from them. This can then be used to indicate where we might want to concentrate our efforts over the coming year.

On Friday 20th August between 10 am and 1 pm there will be a Bug Hunt in the Wilderness.
Turn up at the Wilderness any time between 10 and 1. The event is free.

On Monday 23rd August there will be an Insect identification Walk also in the Wilderness.
This starts at 7.30 pm and is free. Meet at the Wilderness.

Dog

On Sunday September 5th we are having our second dog event, All About Dogs, in conjunction with the RSPCA. This will run from 11am until 4 pm and there will be a dog show, agility exercises, flyball and various stalls. Dog show registration can be any time from 10 am and the rosettes for the competition have been donated by Abbey Road Post Office.

As you will know, the Sunday and Monday groups of volunteers spend a lot of their time doing general improvements and tidying up round the park. In conversation with the volunteers the idea was raised of individuals or families ‘adopting’ a small part of the site and taking responsibility for keeping it tidy. This could be, for instance, a gateway area or one of the shrub beds, or any other place that you have an affection for. The time commitment would be around an hour every other week, or the equivalent, and it would be a very practical way of involving a wider cross section of the community in the maintenance of the Park. The Trust could provide the necessary tools and any training required. If you are interested in the idea please can you leave your details with the office along with details of the area you would like to ‘look after’, and one of the regular volunteers will be in touch with you.

Advance notice that there will be a Warley Woods Quiz again this year. It will be held in St Hilda’s church hall on Friday November 11th. Now is the time to get your teams together. More details will follow nearer the time.

Thanks to both Virgin Trains and KPMG staff who have given up their time to do some volunteering work in the Woods in the last month. It really helps to have a group of enthusiastic workers out for a whole day as they can make such a difference.

USER SURVEY 2010 now open for comment

Our annual User Survey can be accessed by clicking here...

Please do fill it in as it provides the Trust with valuable information about how users see the park and what things we need to change in the future.
The survey runs until October, so you have plenty of time to complete it.
